What makes clearing in Spring Hill different
Most clearing requests around Columbia are rural. In Spring Hill, a large share involve land inside or at the edge of a fast-growing city, and that changes the job:
- City permits come first. Inside city limits, grading and land disturbance generally need city approval, and a site of an acre or more can also need state stormwater coverage before a machine arrives. Ask the city and TDEC what your site needs.
- HOAs and plats. Subdivision covenants, tree-save areas and drainage easements can limit what comes down. Read the plat before you clear.
- Neighbors close by. Burning is restricted, noise and dust matter, and debris usually gets mulched or hauled rather than burned.
- Two counties. The city straddles the Maury and Williamson County line, so an address a mile outside city limits may fall under either county's rules.
Typical Spring Hill clearing jobs
Building lots and custom homes
Wooded lots in newer neighborhoods and infill lots on older streets usually need a house footprint, driveway and yard opened, with stumps pulled under the building and the best shade trees kept. See lot clearing for homes, barns and driveways.
Acreage at the edge of town
Out toward the county roads, five to twenty acre tracts bought for a house and a few animals often come with overgrown fields and fence rows full of cedar and hackberry. Forestry mulching reopens them without bare soil washing toward the ditch.
Backyard reclaim
Homes backing onto a strip of woods often lose the back of the yard to privet and honeysuckle. A careful clearing pass with a compact machine, or hand work near fences, can take it back. See brush and cedar clearing.
Rules to check before clearing in Spring Hill
Beyond city and HOA approvals, the usual state rules apply: a burn permit during burn season, stormwater coverage for larger disturbed areas, and a Tennessee 811 ticket before any digging. Work in or across the creeks around Spring Hill can need a state permit from TDEC, so ask before crossing or clearing a bank. Our Maury County land clearing rules guide lists who regulates what.
What it costs
In-town lots often cost more per acre than rural tracts: smaller areas, careful work near houses and fences, erosion control and hauling instead of burning. See the land clearing cost guide for ranges.
